The Plain Truth from Patrick Chan
Turin, Italy — Refreshing.
That’s the way Patrick Chan is – refreshingly honest. And he discusses matters in such a way that he separates himself from most other elite athletes out there.
“It stinks,” he said of his fifth-place finish at the Vancouver Olympics. “Then it settles in and you understand that you’re not the only star here Patrick. You’re not the only one working his butt off to get somewhere.”
That qualifies as an epiphany.

Patrick has always been a decent guy who speaks his mind. Living in the spotlight is hard even for people much older than him, we shouldn’t unreasonably expect the 19 year old Patrick to be a perfect public speaker all the time.
I love Patrick for his talent and hard work. His beautiful skating often brings tears to my eyes. I’m so grateful that we have Patrick who represents Canada so well.
I consider Patrick our national treasure. I hope he has all the room he needs to grow, all the love he needs to support him and all the freedom he needs to be happy.

“‘The Olympics transform you,’ Chan proclaimed, his eyes the size of frying pans.”
HAHA, yup, I can imagine that.

Don’t worry Patrick , you’re absolutely inspirational. 19 and on Team Canada, making 5th place is already amazing ! Plus you have so many more years ahead of you ( because I’m hoping to see you in Sochi ! ) I remember the night of your competition me and all my friends and family were rooting for you and you didn’t disappoint ! You went out on to the ice and skated amazingly even after having to recover from a injury and having to switch coaches. : ) Just continue setting goals for yourself and believing in yourself because I’m cheering for you ; and I know Canada was and is also cheering for you ! <3
