MOSCOW
One broken world record and one broken nose. That pretty much sums up Canada’s efforts on Day 1 at the world figure skating championships.
The highlight of the day was Patrick Chan, who is off to a flying start after setting a world record Wednesday in the men’s short program.
The 20-year-old Toronto native chalked up a score of 93.02 after a flawless performance skating to Paul Desmond’s Take Five.
Chan topped the previous record of 90.3 set at the 2010 European championships by Russia’s Evgeni Plushenko

Oh my, that just amazing, good luck at free skate
The world tittle will become yours
yeah, thats exactly the scene I loved.
and how great you are to make even japanese people like me on your side.
i loved it , it was the best short you’ve ever done <3 and my favourite part is when you finish off your footwork and dance a little before the ending
I was overjoyed to watch your more than perfect short program on TV this afternoon. New world record! How you make us proud! Congratulations, Patrick! Best of luck tomorrow.
I was so happy to hear this news!
CONGRATS, PATRICK! After all of that hard work and determination, you really deserved this.
